Adopt an Organ Pipe or Stop

If you love cathedral music and wish to support the Friends of Wells Cathedral Grand Organ Appeal, from just £25 you can adopt an organ pipe or stop. You can do this as a personal donation, as a gift for friends or family or in memory of a loved one. Every pipe, from the smallest to the largest plays its part in creating the organ’s magnificent sound whilst the stops (ranks of pipes) allow a kaleidoscope of sounds to shine through to underpin the glory of our Cathedral’s music tradition.

The organ contains around 5,000 pipes and has 67 stops and each one needs to be cleaned, repaired or replaced and then re-tuned. We also plan to add some additional pipes and stops which will further improve the versatility, power and grandeur of the instrument.

All pipe and stop adopters will have the details of their support, including a dedication or gift message, recorded in a special commemorative book which will be kept in perpetuity in the Cathedral Library. In addition, you or your chosen recipient will also be issued with a special souvenir certificate which details your adopted feature and dedication, signed by the Dean of Wells Cathedral, as a record of your gift and our thanks. If you wish to sponsor a pipe, prices for a single pipe range from £25 for the smallest, to £500 for an 8ft pipe, to £1,000 for a 16ft pipe. Your ‘adopt a pipe’ donation, including any gift aid, will be passed to the Friends of Wells Cathedral Grand Organ Appeal.
